Spectra
Compare to the Icarus, which Umbrosa developed together with bundl, the Spectra is a more compact variation. This innovative shade maker is distinguished by its unique geometric, sober character and the ergonomical use. The Spectra can therefore be personalised according to the desired height, value and inclination. The entire unit can also be easily folded closed and set aside.
Umbrosa asked bundl for a redesign of the entire suspension system of the Spectra. Both with regard to system solutions as well as design.
Refurbishment of the Great Apes building
In view of the new master plan in the Antwerp Zoo, the old Great Ape building needed a revival, a new atmosphere. The old, cold and unfeeling nature of the space had to give way for interaction, warmth, adventure and better acoustics.
In close cooperation with Van Halewyck & Marco Architects, Bundl has created the winning concept and supported the entire project up to the actual finishing. By bundling our and the architectural experience in interactive elements, the whole has become an adventurous learning experience, whereby man and ape reside instinctively in a single space.
The new interior is given a warm and natural feeling by using materials like wood, cords and soft ground. Visitors pass through the area in an organic and exploratory manner along the wooden poles that sway through the area as trees. Discover information by comparing yourself to the great apes and perceiving the differences and resemblances. They look for termites, swing through the play elements, mind challenge the apes …
Ingenua
The Ingenua shadow tarp by Umbrosa creates a large and flexible shade cover to fully enjoy your garden or terrace with your family or friends.
Thanks to the ingenious sliding system on poles, in combination with triangular, square, rectangular or pentagonal tarps, Ingenua offers numerous positions: this makes it possible to determine the desired shadow in a jiffy.
Bundl took on the design of the sliding system in order of Umbrosa.
Icarus
Icarus is a unique and functional shade product in the Umbrosa range. They involved bundl in the development of this product for the total design as well as for the design of the technical systems contained within.
This innovative parasol belongs to the Rimbou-range of Umbrosa. Rimbou, the most inaccessible part of the Jungle, is the only location where nature is reflected in full glory. This was the central idea from which the Icarus design has grown into a product with a design that forms the balance between a natural leaf and the more mechanical, ergonomical character.
To guarantee the durability of the product we only used noble materials, such as the Rimbou frame of aluminium. Only materials with a proven colour fastness and UV resistance were used for the material collections.
Paraflex
Paraflex creates shadow anywhere you want it, on the right spot, on the right moment and just enough.
The unique patented system makes this Umbrosa product removes the need for a heavy foot and the central pole of the umbrella. The flexible arm(s) and the tilting settings ensure that one can personalise the shadow, irrespective of the suns position.
Umbrosa asked bundl to take another look at the design and the system possibilities of the flexible arms.
Personalised brainstormtool
Commissioned by and in cooperation with Niko, bundl has developed a brainstorm game intended to morphologically define new product ideas on light operation.
This purpose of this brainstorm game is that it is played with the various stakeholders, such as the intended target group, as well as the internal marketing department with Niko, r&d, designers, … This to formulate concepts whereby all possible input of the various involved parties are integrated.
Together with Niko, bundl firstly went searching for various possible concept ideas for light operation. Together we then housed these great many ideas under different themes, and thereby included them in a logical, clear card game. bundl was called in for the full procedure, from idea generation, all the way to graphic effect.
Technology to Product
The toolbox “Technology to Product” was developed commissioned by Artesis University College Antwerp and in cooperation with Flanders InShape and Verhaert.
“Technology to Product” is a toolbox that contains 5 tools that are intended for use in the front end of innovation.
The front end of innovation (FEI) consists of the first phases of a new development project. During this time an idea is created from scratch, and a concrete product. Special attention is necessary for this FEI , since this determines the success of the finale finished product. All possible factors (technological, functional and economic factors) are taken into account during the concept phase. The participation of the consumer is very important, as well as the correct assessment of the necessary technology, even in an early phase.
The toolbox “Technology to Product” was specifically developed to stimulate technology driven innovation, which means that a product is started with only one known factor, namely technology. Starting with this technology we will launch a search for a new and successfully idea. However, a restricted number of tools may also be used for innovation that doesn’t start from the basis of technology.
Zess Toilet
ZESS is a new, innovative and striking toilet in the streetscape. Not only is it distinguished from the others by the design, but also by the function of the whole. This toilet can function as an autonomous unit thanks to the use of solar energy and rain water. Even on sites where an electricity and/or water network is available, ZESS will first opt for the ecological way. This toilet doesn’t only take into account the end user, but the environment, the maintenance department and all other involved parties. For example, a separate space is provided where both the technical and maintenance department can perform their work comfortably. The toilet is also available in various colours and materials, whereby every person can design his own ZESS .
The ZESS toilet is the latest invention of Verhofsté nv and Public Services. Bundl was responsible for the entire design of the toilet, constantly in close discussion with these partners. When our agency was consulted they were already in the strategic phase, and together we ran through the entire designing process up until the first prototype was realised.

Fort Liefkenshoek
“Fort Liefkenshoek, a heritage of the city of Beveren, must be transformed into an attractive destination for families and school groups. It should be an attraction drawing both children and adults to experience history in a fun way and where they can appreciate the extensive and diverse offer, each at their own rate.”
With this instruction letter bundl took on the job in partnership with the Madoc production house.
The result is a true learning experience where technology and hands-on experience are coordinated. It is a historical interactive game, entitled ‘The Nine Lives of Fort Liefkenshoek’. The goal is to find answers by blowing up bridges, building forts, taking it up against others in a large battle, …
Our force in this project was the creative input from a technological point of view. Together with the knowledge and experience of Madoc, we were able to take office as a full design & build team.
Promotional gift
The City of Beveren have presented promotional gifts to their contacts for many years. In the past they always used existing products, only to have these personalised by printing, engraving, … With this project they wanted to go one step further and design a business gift fully coordinated to the city and which would therefore radiate the charisma of Beveren.
bundl was inspired in this design by the flag of the city of Beveren, as well as the accompanying slogan “Heerlijkheid, vroeger en nu” [“Glory, past and present”]. Convinced that the flag radiates the character of the city, we translated this into the design of a product that may serve as holder for letters, pens and business cards.
The production of the business gifts was realised by cooperation with Komec Helsen.
Tetra-project
bundl was involved in the Tetra project “Visitor surveys regarding the efficacy of education in zoos and exploration of the contribution of technological innovation”. This year-long exploratory survey was run from the Catholic University College Sint-Lieven and was subsidised by the Agency for by Science, Technology and Innovation and the members of the user group.
bundl was used as executive partner to take care of the product development hatch. This ranging from technology exploration, advisory services and a creative perspective on edutainment, through to the translation of all of this into concrete concepts.
Subsidy grants have since been provided for the further development of this project.
Cussedpack
90% of our lives are spent in enclosed areas. Using this as a starting point, bundl started searching for new ways to stimulate people to work outdoors. CussedPack forms an all-in-one concept of a backpack, chair and table. The product creates an opportunity to step outside and comfortably work, read, draw, eat, etc.
In a nice spot like in a park or at the beach, the Cussedpack is transformed from a backpack into a workshop, reading table, etc. in a matter of seconds. The Cussedpack is placed on the ground and the arm is folded open. Once seated, one can further personalise the table according to height and inclination.
Everything is within reach when sitting on the Cussedpack. The arm of the chair ensures ergonomical seating at a table and provides extra support for objects such as books, laptops …
Pulsense
Phillips Pulsense is a unique product that heightens the television experience. A wave of additional stimuli increases the quality of the images and intensifies the sensation. Vibrations, airflow, texture changes and light effects, in direct or indirect contact with the skin, transform the television experience into a truly intense sensation.
The product is specifically designed for the Philips Aurea television, but can also be used with any other TV. As a result of the degree of innovation and the combination with high-end systems, the Pulsense started off in the upper-market. In view of this segment, bundl has tried to create a shape family consisting of the ideal mix between these markets’ demands and the current Philips products. These shapely aspects have been applied to all products of the system.
Stepglider
StepGlider is a human-powered vehicle that simplifies travelling short distances. The added value of the product is situated in the new mechanism developing an alternative, energy-efficient form of locomotion.
This is realised through teamwork between stepping and using one’s hands to exert strength on a gear, resulting in an accelerated forward motion. This ensures great stability so that the product can appeal to a large target group. Again, as with walking, a rectilinear forward motion is realized, which means that one takes up less space on the road, creating a safer feeling. Compaction, various types and measurements of shoes and comfortable breaking are also considered.
